Meet Kara

Kara Pinksen

  • Therapist / Social Worker (MSW/RSW)

  • Registered in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland

Therapy is one of the hardest and most rewarding things you can do for yourself. My goal as a therapist is that you leave the session feeling heard, understood and unjudged; with tools and confidence to make positive change in your life.

I have 22 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families. I specialize in Trauma, Addiction and Anxiety, and concerns related to gender and/or sexuality.

I would describe my approach as energetic, hopeful and solution-focused, with a dash of humour and laughter. I incorporate body and breathwork, and other somatic strategies to enhance and help maintain change.

The therapeutic modalities I draw from most are ACT, CBT, DBT, IFS, and SFT. I am also a practitioner of ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and Auricular Acupuncture.

I grew up in rural NL, and spent a good portion of my life in St. John’s not kissing cod. I have lived in New Brunswick and eaten my fair share of fiddleheads. But I have made my home in N.S. which continues to fuel my love of the Atlantic provinces.
